Intervention Orders

Family violence is described as any harmful behaviour that is used by one person to threaten, control, force or dominate a family member through fear. Family Violence comes in many, often unexpected, forms including:

  • Physical violence, like hitting or pushing.

  • Sexual abuse, such as pressuring somebody into sexual actions they are uncomfortable with.

  • Social abuse, such as controlling a person’s relationships and restricting their liberties.

  • Financial abuse, such as controlling another person’s use of their own money.

  • Mental and emotional abuse

A Family Violence Intervention Order is an Order that may require a respondent to stop the behaviour, cease contact with a protected person, or stop an agent of the respondent from contacting the protected person.

Once the Police or an Affected Family Member has applied for an Intervention Order, our staff are able to assist with the Court Proceedings that follow.
